Lower Back Pain Treatment from our Omaha Chiropractor
Lower back pain is one of the most common complaints of patients who visit our Faimon Chiropractic clinic in Omaha, NE. Fortunately, our chiropractor can provide a number of natural, non-invasive treatment options to treat it while avoiding the use of surgery or medication.
Causes and Symptoms
The lower back, also known as the lumbar spine, is a complex combination of interconnected joints, muscles, nerves, joints, and ligaments that work together. Since this part of the back supports the upper body and is responsible for dozens of common motions, a number of things can go wrong with it and cause a patient pain.
The most frequent reasons for acute pain in the lower back related to injury to discs, joints, ligaments, or muscles. Sometimes a substandard ergonomic condition at home or at work or poor posture is the culprit. Carrying excess weight, suffering a herniated disc, osteoarthritis, and injuries related to using the wrong technique to lift heavy objects are also typical causes.
The most common cause of lumbar discomfort is a mechanical pain. Patients usually experience pain in the buttocks, lower back, and sometimes in the top of their legs. Radicular pain occurs after inflammation of a spinal nerve and causes a sharp, burning-type sensation sometimes linked to weakness or numbness, particularly in just one half of the body.
Our doctor defines three types of pain:
- Acute usually appears suddenly and lasts at most a few weeks.
- Subacute persists for 6 weeks to 3 months and typically results from a mechanical problem.
- Chronic is severe and lasts more than 3 months.
How Our Chiropractor Treats Lower Back Pain
Diagnosis of lower back pain begins with a complete physical exam from our chiropractor, who also reviews each patient’s health history and work and lifestyle habits. It includes assessing the range of motion and specific neurologic responses. Sometimes X-rays, CT scans, or MRI images are helpful in determining the reason for pain.
Our doctor utilizes spinal adjustments to soothe back pain. These manual manipulations realign vertebrae to reduce the pressure placed on the spinal cord.
Our practice also provides patients with ergonomic and lifestyle advice to help them self-heal. A customized treatment plan might include weight-loss advice, physical exercises, acupuncture, or a combination of these therapies.
